4 outdoor activities near los angeles

When it comes to outdoor activities, Los Angeles and the City of Industry, CA, offer countless options, from hiking through untouched natural areas and cycling along the scenic coastline to paddling on a shimmering lake and watching movies on a rooftop under the stars. Get in behind the wheel of a Subaru Impreza, Legacy, or Crosstrek, and check out the great options below.

1. Hike Through L.A.’s Biggest City Park

Griffith Park at 4730 Crystal Springs Drive in L.A. covers 4,200 acres and is the largest municipal park in the U.S. The park is home to the Griffith Observatory, the L.A. Zoo and Botanical Gardens, and the iconic Hollywood sign.

Explore the landscaped gardens and untouched, natural chaparral-covered terrain on over 70 miles of trails through walnut woodlands and riparian vegetation that thrive in the deep canyons and admire the spectacular views over the city. Over 150 plant species and more than 200 bird species live in the park, and deer, coyotes, gray foxes, raccoons, bobcats, and mountain lions are spotted along the trails.

2. Cycle Along the Coastline

The 22-mile Marvin Braude Bike Trail, or The Strand as locals call the route, runs along the coastline and is known for being the best bike route in the area. The trail begins at Will Rogers State Beach at 17700 Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades, follows the shore of Santa Monica Bay past some of California’s best beaches, and ends at the southern terminus at Torrance County Beach at 289 Paseo De La Playa in Torrance.

The scenic route mainly consists of a broad concrete path that winds into the sand in places and around King Harbor and Marina Del Rey.

3. Glide Over a Scenic Lake in a Swan Boat

The picturesque Echo Park Lake at 751 Echo Park Avenue in L.A. offers a peaceful getaway from the bustling city. Take a scenic stroll along the lake to feed the ducks, find the ideal picnic spot for a bite to eat, and admire the view over the downtown skyline.

If you are with friends or family, rent the four-seater swan-shaped pedal boats and pedal over the lake’s shimmering water to see the sights, or stay until after dark for a romantic neon-lit night pedal on one of the two-seaters.

4. Watch a Movie Under the Stars on a Rooftop

Treat your family and friends to an exciting one-of-a-kind movie night at the Rooftop Cinema Club Arts District at 777 South Alameda Street in L.A. This rooftop venue offers a wide selection of movies, from classic to cult favorites and new releases. Enjoy magnificent city views, indulge in delicious food, and watch the film on the big screen when the sun sets, just as the stars come out and the city lights twinkle.

Get off your couch and away from your computer screen and discover all the outdoor fun around the city. Make a stop at Puente Hills Subaru part of the fun and take one of the new models for a spin.
