3 best scenic drives in southern california

Los Angeles is known for its car culture, which includes some of the nation’s best scenic drives. Put your wheels to the test and explore Southern California on one of our three favorite routes near City of Industry, CA.

1. Angeles Crest Highway

You can reach this classic scenic LA drive in less than an hour from City of Industry. The 66-mile Angeles Crest Highway, completed in 1956, takes you through the towering pines and rocky cliffs of Angeles National Forest. As you traverse the San Gabriel Mountains, consider stopping at Mount Wilson Observatory in Pasadena to get an incredible view from its historic telescopes on the 5,710-foot peak.

If you want to stop by the observatory, keep in mind that it’s open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. From City of Industry, you can access Angeles Crest Highway at its southern end at La Canada Flintridge. Take I-210 W to CA-2 E, and you’ll be on the scenic drive when you turn right at that intersection.

2. Mulholland Scenic Parkway and Corridor

This famous LA route just an hour from City of Industry winds through 55 miles of the Santa Monica Mountains and beyond. Along Mulholland Drive, which makes up the first 24 miles of the scenic corridor, you’ll pass some of the world’s most expensive homes as well as iconic city sights like the Hollywood sign, the San Fernando Valley, and the LA Basin.

You can access the start of Mulholland Scenic Parkway by traveling on US 101 N to Cahuenga Blvd E, where you’ll find Mulholland Drive on your right less than a half-mile off the exit. Several scenic overlooks along the route provide 360-degree vantage points of LA and beyond, including the Universal City Overlook at 7701 Mulholland Dr and the Barbara A. Fine Overlook at the Summit at 11801 Mulholland Dr in Studio City.

3. Griffith Park Loop

If you’re looking for a short scenic route, try this 3.5-mile jaunt less than 45 minutes from City of Industry. Driving is one of the best ways to explore this natural area, which spans 4,210 acres in LA. You’ll climb more than 1,500 feet above the city streets with stunning views of native California trees, the Santa Monica Mountains, and local landmarks like the Greek Theatre.

Stop off at Griffith Observatory for breathtaking views of the LA lights, open daily from noon to 10 p.m. The park is located at 4730 Crystal Springs Dr. After entering the complex, drive past the Greek and get on the scenic loop at N Vermont Ave by Roosevelt Municipal Golf Course.

The Subaru Crosstrek can take you on the most rugged routes through LA’s mountain ranges. See it in person today at Puente Hills Subaru.
