1. LA State Historic Park

The LA State Historic Park at 1245 North Spring Street is a scenic 32-acre open space in the middle of the 52-mile river greenway and is ideal for getting out in the fresh air in the heart of the city. The park is popular with walkers, runners, and cyclers, with plenty of opportunities to view urban wildlife. Meander down the pathways to admire the view of downtown and learn more about the city’s natural and cultural heritage.

It is here, at the Southern Pacific Railroad’s River Station that opened in 1875, where thousands of people arrived from around the country and the world. Within walking distance is the Flat Iron Building, built in 1890 and the second-oldest industrial building still standing in the city, and the 1883 Capitol Milling Company building is visible from the park’s southern end.

2. Santa Monica State Beach

The 3-mile-long Santa Monica State Beach is a 16.7-mile drive away at 1550 Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica on the North side of the iconic Santa Monica Pier. The beach stretches along 245 acres of sand and is one of the nation’s most famous beaches.

Spend a relaxing day basking in the warm California sun, take a refreshing dip in the ocean, and enjoy the deck, pool, and views over the beach and the sea at the Annenberg Community Beach House. If you are feeling more adventurous, stroll along the pedestrian path or cycle down the biking path and visit Will Rogers State Beach to the North or Venice Beach to the south.
