popular hiking trails near los angeles

City of Industry, CA is conveniently located near beautiful mountains and scenic deserts. There are innumerable opportunities for recreation, including outdoor activities, like hiking. If you’re interested in picking up a new outdoor hobby, we strongly recommend packing your CamelBak in your 2024 Subaru Impreza and exploring one of the following hiking trails nearby.

1. Coyote and Ahwingna Trail Loop

If you’re in decent shape, we cannot recommend the Coyote and Ahwingna Trail Loop in Puente Hills Preserve enough. Parking, restrooms, and the trailhead can be found at the end of 7th Avenue South. This beautiful loop is 2.9 miles and moderately challenging, featuring an elevation gain of 698 feet.

One thing we love about this trail is its versatility. It is a great trail for hiking, bird-watching, and running. However, you should know that it is a multi-use trail. You may encounter mountain bikers, equestrians, or people walking their dogs. Remember that mountain bikers must yield to you and equestrians, and you must yield to equestrians.

2. Skyline Trail to Rattlesnake Ridge Trail

Like the Coyote and Ahwingna Trail Loop, the Skyline Trail to Rattlesnake Ridge Trail is a moderately intense hike. However, it is 4.5 miles from the Skyline Trail trailhead off Skyline Drive and Descending Drive to the Rattlesnake Ridge Trail trailhead and back. If you are up for spending a couple of hours hiking, we recommend checking this trail out on a clear day. You can see the beach, mountains, and city.

3. Schabarum and Purple Sage Loop

If you want to go on an easy hike, we recommend the Schabarum and Purple Sage Loop. Parking and the Schabarum Park Trail Head can be found at 17250 Colima Rd. This popular loop trail is quick and easy, featuring an elevation gain of only 265 feet. Due to the light intensity of this loop, finishing shouldn’t take you an hour.

This trail is accessible year-round, and we find it to be ideal the day after a rainstorm, especially in the summer. The temperature drops, helping to make up for the lack of shade on most of the trail. Depending on the volume of rainfall, the trail may be a little muddy. However, if you pay attention to the trail ahead of you, there is no need to worry about slipping.

There are many amazing trails near Los Angeles and City of Industry that you can drive to. However, your Subie needs regular maintenance to run strong for years to come. Once you’re close to putting 5,000 miles on your motor, contact us at Puente Hills Subaru to schedule an oil change.
