While electrical problems could happen anytime, they are usually caused by damaged or worn components. As your Subaru dealer in City of Industry, CA, we can fix any of the problems for you. We can also service your car to reduce the chance of any problem with your electrical system. These are a few of the most common problems that we fix.
Dead Battery
A dead battery isn’t pleasant, but statistics show many drivers will experience one at some point in their time behind the wheel. The battery’s main function is to provide the initial electrical charge that starts your engine. Its second function is to maintain all your car’s electrical systems when the engine is switched off.
A battery uses chemical reactions, copper plates, and an electrolyte solution to store and supply electricity. Over time, the chemical reactions cause vital chemicals like sulfuric acid to break down. When this happens, the battery will gradually lose its ability to hold or supply an electrical charge. We can quickly and easily replace a dead battery for you.
Weak Alternator
Your car has a mini generator called the alternator. The alternator’s job is to produce electricity for your car by spinning at high speed. A healthy alternator produces more electricity than your car requires. Over time, the alternator will become worn or damaged, and its electricity production will drop. When this happens, problems will develop in the electrical system.
Flickering headlights, dim cabin lights, and strange noises under the hood are some of the signs of a failing alternator. As the alternator becomes weaker, your car can develop misfiring, stalling, or starting problems. All of these issues can be caused by the lack of a consistent electricity supply. Our technicians will test your alternator, and we can install a new one for you if it’s failing.
Damaged Starter
The electrical charge from the battery is sent to the starter solenoid. The solenoid passes this charge to the starter, and the starter cranks your engine. As the engine cranks, fuel and air enter the intake manifold, and the combustion process begins. Combustion will then sustain your car until you switch off the engine.
A starter problem can be easily diagnosed by listening for a slight click when you press the start button. If you hear the click, this means the starter is working correctly. If you don’t hear a click, you have a starter problem. Damaged wiring, a worn starter solenoid, or damage to the starter itself can make starting your car difficult or even impossible. We’ll check your starter and repair the problem or replace it, depending on the situation.
