There are 6 Subaru Forester trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring. The Base trim features 17-inch steel wheels and plastic covers as standard, with aluminum alloy wheels in a silver finish as an available option. The Premium and Wilderness trim levels come standard with 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels in various black finishes, and the Sport, Limited, and Touring feature 18-inch wheels.
Revised exterior styling includes a rear spoiler and body-color side-view mirrors, adding to a more stylized and modern curb appeal. All-terrain tires are standard on the ever-popular Forester Wilderness, while the other five trims come fitted with all-season tires. Steering responsive LED headlights are standard features on all trim levels, and the top five trims feature a roof spoiler.
Engine (Power)
The 2023 Forester features a 2.5-liter Subaru Boxer flat-four-cylinder engine with an output of 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque across all trim levels. A Lineartronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) routes the engine's power to a standard symmetrical all-wheel-drive system.
Sport, Limited, and Touring models pair the CVT with adaptive control and a seven-speed manual mode, while the Wilderness features an eight-speed manual mode. Subaru equips the 2023 Forester to elevate your next road trip with a towing capacity of 1,500 pounds.
Performance
The Forester exceeds expectations on dirt roads and easy-to-moderate off-road trails. With 8.7 inches of ground clearance plus an all-wheel-drive powertrain, it traverses dirt roads with traction control and off-road prowess. The Wilderness model features a higher ground clearance and upgraded suspension for more adventurous trails.
While the Forester boasts enhanced off-road capability and changes direction with speed and confidence, it's also a quiet and comfortable drive with a fuel efficiency rating near the top of its class. This crossover SUV achieves 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
Interior
Generous cargo capacity and well-padded, comfortable front seats with good bolstering and lumbar support provide a comfortable road-trip driving experience. The rear seating is spacious enough to accommodate three adults. Heated front seats and reclining rear seat backs come standard on the top five trims.
Subaru equips all Forester models with an attractive and easy-to-use touchscreen infotainment system. Base, Premium, and Sport models come standard with a 6.5-inch touchscreen display, and an 8-inch screen is optional on the Sport and standard on the Limited and Touring trim levels. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration come standard, with multiple USB ports in the front and rear.
Safety Features
A full complement of driver-assist features is standard on the Forester. These include automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Every Subaru Forester comes equipped with seven airbags.
