What’s Happening in Los Angeles This Holiday Season?

There are always plenty of things to do in Los Angeles. LA has events and attractions that keep residents and tourists alike entertained all year round! But what’s going on in December? Well, there are tons of events that you should mark in this month’s calendar. Come and spend time in the city and enjoy all the holiday festivities LA has to offer!

November 1, 2019 - January 20, 2020: ICE at Santa Monica

ICE is an 8000-square-foot skating rink located in downtown Santa Monica. Head over to learn how to skate, play broomball, or even host your own ice rink party! You can also rent your own cabana. If you don’t have your own ice skates (who in LA does?) you can rent a pair at the rink for $15. Sizes are available for adults and children. ICE also has a concession stand, complete with great snacks and hot chocolate.

November 9, 2019 - January 12, 2020: Moonlight Forest

Back for its second year, Moonlight Forest is a nighttime affair held in the Arcadia Botanical garden. Last year, the garden featured a beautiful Chinese theme, complete with giant lanterns, themed archways, and majestic dragons. This year, the forest returns with two new themes: Polar Dreams, and Ocean Visions. If you missed out last year, these great light sculptures will return, along with new ones to match the newest themes. You’ll see penguins, sleds, and an array of sea creatures light up in a symphony of color.

December 1, 2019: Hollywood Christmas Parade

The Hollywood Christmas Parade is one of the city’s most beloved holiday events. This parade has been around for almost 90 years old! Come by to see tons of floats, bands, and celebrities make their way through Orange, from Hollywood to Sunset. Purchase reserved seating for the best view. Proceeds go to Toys for Tots! Don’t have the cash? Don’t sweat it — there’s plenty of curbside seating available.

December 6, 2019: Jingle Ball

Get ready for KIIS FM’s musical event of the year! The Jingle Ball is an annual holiday lineup of some of the best Popstars alive today. This year, grab a ticket for a chance to see Katy Perry, Billie Eilish, Sam Smith, Camila Cabello, BTS, Lizzo, Normani, and French Montana. Talk about star power! Get your tickets now before they sell out — will all that talent, tickets may be gone sooner than you think.

December 10, 2019 - December 12, 2019: Joanna Newsom

Joanna Newsom is back with her latest album, Divers. In this album, Newsom reminds us all that she is an indie music force to be reckoned with. Her album adds to her repertoire of beautiful vocals, her amazing harp playing, and her awe-inspiring lyrics. Hers is a performance you won’t want to miss.

December 21, 2019 - December 22, 2019: Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande has had a challenging past few years. She’s faced nasty media backlash after calling it quits with Pete Davidson, faced the passing of Mac Miller (Grande’s ex-boyfriend), and was traumatized after the Manchester Arena bombing. Despite these events, Ariana proved her strength and tenacity. This singer released Thank U, Next: an album containing some of Grande’s most heartfelt music, and power anthems. Watch the singer live and listen to her impressive vocal range and soulful timbre.

November 27, 2019 - December 29, 2019: Love Actually Live

There’s no better way to celebrate the holidays than to go to a live performance of one of the best, most romantic Christmas movies ever? All December, For the Record produces a live stage show based on Love Actually. The production includes footage of the original film, as well as a 15-piece orchestra to accompany the performers.

November 2, 2019 - December 21, 2019: Artists & Fleas

Artists & Fleas is the newest fleamarket in the Venice area. This great market is home to a vast collection of records, clothing, and jewelry. Artists & Fleas is the perfect place to find an original gift for that hard-to-shop-for loved one in your life. The market is also home to a number of food vendors and candy confectioners.

November 2, 2019 - December 29, 2019: Asssscat

This show is the Upright Citizens Brigade’s longest-running show. There’s a reason — fans just can’t get enough of the amazing improv comedy that comes fresh from this show, which plays every Saturday and Sunday. No two shows are the same. This show feature’s UCB’s best players and founding members. If you’re lucky, you may find yourself sitting in front of one of the theatre’s many celebrity alumnae.

December 14, 2019 - December 15, 2019: Rolling Loud

Rolling Loud is a 2-day long hip hop festival. If you’re a fan of the genre, this isn’t an event you’ll want to miss. This year’s headliners include Chance the Rapper, A$AP Rocky, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert. The rest of the lineup includes Meek Mill, Lil Baby, Young Thug, and more.

December 14, 2019: Santa Monica Pub Crawl

Who knew drinking with friends could do so much good? At the Santa Monica Pub Crawl, you can get together with your friends and enjoy a few drinks together. The event has a $10-$20 admittance fee and all of the proceeds go to the Westside Foodbank. The crawl will take you to some amazing bars, including the Anchor, Finn McCool’s, Ashland Hill, and the Basement Tavern.
